SP23 (W8): Zucchini on the Scene

Dear CSA Members + Farm Community,

The very first of our summer fruits will be coming to market and CSA this week- get ready for some ZUCCHINI! And it looks like the tomatoes and cucumbers won’t be too far off- the plants are growing quickly, and we’ve even noticed that some of the cherry tomatoes have started to set fruit. If you’re like us, you’re already dreaming of tomato sammies, cucumber salad, and basil pesto. Sign up for the summer season of the CSA here- shares are discounted if you pay in full up front!

We’ve had two requests so far for discounted shares. If we can raise $400, we’ll be able to provide these neighbors with affordably priced fruits and veg for the summer season. If you have the means, think about giving to the Share the Harvest fund. Any amount helps!!

As the temps creep up and up, we’re doing our best to keep up with rapid growth on the farm- this means trellising like crazy, harvesting extra hard, and trying to stay on top of cultivation and mowing (the weeds are growing like crazy too). Keep enjoying the spring veggies- salad greens are still going crazy, and are perfect for a hot day, no effort dinner. Check out this salad guide from chef/cookbook author Samin Nosrat for some simple combos to try. For a classic, try this strawberry, spinach, balsamic salad. And to celebrate the start of summer veg, why not throw some zucchini on the grill and serve with a spiced yogurt sauce.

Happy eating!
