CSA Frequently Asked Questions
-
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is an arrangement where farmers sell their produce directly to local consumers. The consumer receives a weekly box of produce which is their “share” of that season’s harvest.
-
CSA benefits both you and the farm! For members, the CSA takes the guesswork out of eating seasonally. It allows you to be more in tune with what’s growing on the farm, deepening your connection with the natural growing cycles in Athens. Better than the markets, CSA ensures you get the first produce of the season and you never run the risk of showing up to sold-out produce. Our CSA members also get to be part of a community that comes together over a shared sense of purpose. We occasionally hold CSA member-only farm tours and potlucks that are a great way to connect with other members and deepen your connection to your food & community.
For the farm, a strong CSA means stability through consistent year-round income and a sense of investment in our community. It provides some ease in planning daily harvests, which is especially vital during our busy seasons and our slower months. For both the farmers and the members, it allows us to be more connected in community since we’ll see each other every week!

For the 2025 CSA season we will be offering 4 sessions.
Winter 2025: January 7th - March 1st (8 weeks)
Spring 2025: March 4th - May 31st (13 weeks)
Summer 2025: June 3rd - August 30th (13 weeks)
Fall 2025: September 2nd - November 22nd (12 weeks) -
You can choose from the standard veggie share, the large veggie share, or our flower share.
STANDARD VEGGIE SHARE ($25/week): Contains 5-7 seasonal vegetables each week, and fruit when it’s in season! This share is great for 1 or 2 people.
LARGE VEGGIE SHARE ($35/week): Contains 7-9 seasonal vegetables each week. The large veggie share will have all of the veggies in the standard share plus 2-3 additional fruits or veggies. This option is perfect for a family, roommates, or a couple of serious veggie eaters! For the Winter 2025 session the large share will contain the same contents as the standard share, but with some items in a greater quantity (ie. 2 bunches of carrots instead of 1 bunch)
FLOWER SHARE ($15/week): One bouquet of our best fresh-cut flowers each week. Bunches may be single variety or mixed arrangements depending on season and availability.

Items in the veggie shares will change from week to week, with popular “staple” items like lettuce, tomatoes, and squash appearing more often than other vegetables. In the spring, expect greens like kale and collards, lettuce, arugula, root vegetables like carrots, radishes and turnips, and fun extras like strawberries, green garlic, fennel, and endive. As summer heats up, you’ll see tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, and okra, onions, some heat-tolerant greens, among others. As temperatures fall, you’ll be eating sweet potatoes, winter squash, greens, roots, and salad greens.

While we won’t have the capacity to provide a la carte shopping for the CSA each week, we will often have different items to choose from at pickup. For example, in the spring your share might look like: 1 pint of strawberries, 1 bunch of collards OR kale, 1 bunch of daikon OR salad radishes, 1 bag of arugula OR spring mix, 1 bunch of hakurei turnips, 1 bunch of carrots OR beets etc.
Additionally, we will provide a swap box at our pickup location, so you’ll be able to swap out one item for another if there’s an item in your share you know you don’t like. As we’re able, we’ll have some additional produce, eggs, and other farm-fresh items for sale at CSA pickup.

Because of the nature of the CSA, we will not offer refunds if you miss your share for a week. If you do miss your pickup and want us to re-pack it for the following pickup day, please contact us by 9AM the morning following your missed pickup. Unclaimed shares will be donated.
If you know in advance that you won’t be able to pick up your share on your designated day one week (vacation, work, life happens etc.) we recommend seeing if a friend or neighbor can come by in your place. Just tell them to give us your name at pickup! If you have more questions or concerns about missed pickups or want to pause your CSA, email us at diamondhillfarmcsa@gmail.com
