F24 (W3): Best of both Seasons
Dear CSA Members + Farm Community,
Fall and summer crops are overlapping like crazy for your share this week! We’ll be seeing the first of the fall bunching greens— hello kale and collards— along with the beginnings of our late season cherry tomato planting. September in Georgia is a magical month!
We are busily preparing fields for more fall and winter planting. At this point in the year, we are starting to think ahead to January and February harvests, thinking through the next transition or two for our hoop houses. Having enclosed high tunnels allows us to grow year-round, keeping tender plants warm during frosty nights. Space is limited, though, and we want to make sure that we have plenty going on in the houses for the fall and early winter too, so it takes a lot of planning and calculating. It’s an exciting puzzle!
This week, CSA members will all receive daikon radishes. These purple cuties are milder than their smaller salad radish counterparts— you can eat them raw or cooked. Slice them thin and add to a salad for some crunch and purple hue, or toss them in a stir fry. Have a lil time on your hands? Check out this recipe for daikon radish buns. If you’re radish hesitant, try this simple recipe for daikon chips, thinly sliced and baked to a crisp!
Happy eating!
