SP23 (W4): This is not a Drill!

Dear CSA Members + Farm Community,

This is not a drill! A few days after the spring equinox and the frosty nights, we took the frost cloth off the strawberry field to find a few ripe fruits. They’re not in your shares or at market just yet, but we’re looking at a nice and early strawberry season this year, so get ready!

In other warm-weather news, the first rounds of tomatoes and cucumbers went into the ground in our high tunnels last week. While the frosty mornings and 80 degree days are giving us whiplash, we’re excited to start dreaming of snacking on cherry tomatoes in a few months.

For now, we’re excited to continue sharing the early spring bounty with y’all. This week, you can choose between chard or broccoli greens for both shares. I love both of these greens sautéed with olive oil, some sliced green garlic, salt and pepper, and a squeeze of lemon. Use your leftover cooked greens to make this super simple frittata for a spring-y brunch meal. If you’re not into eating chard stems, try out these easy refrigerator pickled chard stems. And while we’re talking about using all parts of the vegetable, why not try braised turnip roots and greens?

Happy eating!
