SP23 (W3): Fooled by Fool’s Spring

Dear CSA Members + Farm Community,

I don’t know about y’all, but that fool’s spring really had me fooled. While we might not have felt ready for these below freezing temps, the plants seem to be taking it in stride. Keep your fingers crossed for us, though- more cold to come this weekend and early next week!

Spring veggies are really starting to come in! Carrots are sizing up, fennel is looking happy, and you’ll be seeing the first of the spring season kale in your shares this week (and maybe at a market if it keeps going strong this week).

Flowers are changing too: we’re down to our last planting of Ranunculus, but the Snapdragons and Sweet William are coming on quick! Expect to see more of those familiar friends in the coming weeks.

This week, you’ll see some newbies on the market table or in your farm share. $35 share members will receive mint, and we’ll have more for sale! Try adding it to lemonade or making a mint julep as the warm weather moves back in. For a savory take, try out this carrot top chimichurri to use the beautiful greens on the carrots in this week’s share, but throw in a handful of mint leaves too! I’ve been putting it on everything this week- pasta, chicken, tofu, even on my eggs at breakfast.

We’ll also have frisee- a beautiful bitter spring green. It’s great in this simple salad, and you can add protein to make it a whole meal. Or, if you’re really feelin’ yourself, try out this one with a bacon vinaigrette and poached eggs!

Happy Eating!
