SP23 (W2): Warmer Days Ahead!
Dear CSA Members + Farm Community,
Last week was a big one for the farm: 1st week of Athens Farmers Market’s spring season, AND our first week of CSA pickups! We’re so grateful for y’all’s support and patience as we navigate the newness of another season starting.
We (and most other farmers in our region) are still feeling the effects of that cold snap in December. A lot of the vegetables we were relying on to tide us over until the spring veggies come into full swing were taken out by the cold. But, with the warm and sunny days we’ve been having, everything is growing like crazy and we’re bringing plenty of veg and flowers out of the field. Most of our spring greens and roots are in the ground, and sizing up beautifully. In the greenhouse, tomatoes, peppers, and squash are looking nearly ready to be planted.
If you haven’t signed up for a CSA share, there are still spots available! You can pay weekly and pickup on Tuesday or Thursday. You’ll be sure to get access to prime crops like strawberries and tomatoes that often sell out quickly at market (and those days aren’t far off- check out the green strawberries we’ve been finding below!)
Also a reminder to CSA members: please reach out to us if you know in advance that you can’t make it to pickup on time! If you don’t come to your chosen pickup, we will bring your share to the next Athens market (Wednesday or Saturday), and if it’s still not picked up, it will be donated.
This week’s farm share:
$25 Share: Head lettuce, green garlic, radish, celery, chard, choice of spinach or arugula
$35 Share: Head lettuce, green garlic, radish, celery, chard, choice of spinach or arugula, microgreens, turnips, spicy mix
