Spring Cleaning (Came Early)

Dear Farm Community -

Last week was COLD, y’all. Our numb fingers and toes survived the week intact and the cold gave us a blessing in disguise; with the ground too frozen to do much with, and the ultra-low temps forcing us to sit out our usual markets, we got to work tidying up the farm. Emma & Reid sharpened and oiled our hand tools, Anna, Eli, & Carolyn corralled old irrigation tape from around the farm, Jeanny and Sandra cleaned our pack shed from top to bottom, and Alex & Morgan separated out the Dahlia tubers. Everybody pitched in re-organizing the pack shed on Friday! Our crops are tucked in tight for the cold days ahead and the farm is looking as dazzling as a chilly swath of land draped in row cover possibly can.

All of this tidying and cleaning has us feeling amped for the year to come. We’re already envisioning how we’ll better streamline the controlled chaos that is peak season - folks pinting cherry tomatoes, washing lettuce, packing carrots, counting bunches of kale, all in the same space, in much warmer weather than these chilly temps we’ve been enduring. With any luck, the little changes and improvements we made around the farm this week will mean big improvements in our ability to grow, harvest, pack, and deliver all the delish veggies and showstopper flowers you know and love!

If you are also envisioning the (more tasty side of) the year ahead, here is your sign to check out our 2024 CSA! We are offering expanded pickup options and (new this year…) HOME DELIVERY! Check out last week’s blog post for more info. Here is a quick run-through of what is currently being offered:

FEBRUARY SESSION (february 6th - 27th)
A 4-week session featuring the best of North Georgia winter farming! One-size veggie farm box with lettuces, kale, turnips, radishes, carrots, sweet potatoes, and more cold-weather faves. These root veggies are tasting so sweet!
Pickups will be Tuesday at Athens Montessori from 4-6pm.

SPRING SESSION (march 5th - may 30th)
We’ll begin to see strawberries, garlic, spring onions, and leeks while still enjoying cool-weather favorites like spinach, lettuce, and kale! Those with flower shares can expect anemones, ranunculus, poppies, and TULIPS! Spring session is 13 weeks and we are offering 3 different share options: $25 veggie farm boxes, $35 veggie farm boxes, and $15 flower shares. When you buy the full Spring Season CSA you are saving 5% off retail vs paying weekly!

THREE SEASON OPTION (march 5th - november 21st)
Our three-season sign-up is a no-fuss one-time payment that offers a discount off full retail price and ensures your access to flowers and/or veggies for the duration of our 2024 season. The share options are: $25 veggie farm boxes, $35 veggie farm boxes, or $15 flower share. (Note that this does not include our February mini-session so please sign up for that separately!)

Wishing you all a warmer week than last, and hoping to see your sunny faces soon at our first February pickup on 2/6!

Stay warm out there,
