Spinach, Beets, and New High Tunnels!

Dear Farm Community -

What a journey we had last week! Early in the week we had lows below freezing, then came the heavy rains for days at a time and then….. a nice spring day in the 70’s? Our plants (and farmers) sure have been thrown for a loop, but we managed to get by that cold stretch with minimal losses, diligently worked through the rain erecting two new high tunnels and washing our market vans, and we were rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous day on Friday. The farmers were in full spring mode, navigating the mud left by the heavy rain to plant the new tunnels with more beets, spinach, fennel, and bok choy. These little seedlings are happy as clams and should be sizing up by springtime. The critters emerged from their slumbers to celebrate the weather with us on Friday too - frogs were chirping, crickets hopping, and worms everywhere you dug. Our flower beds gave us some beautiful blooms, too. The anemones, ranunculus, and poppies are all starting to wake up in a big and beautiful way. It might be a fool’s spring (looking at temps taking a little dip again this week), but we got that first taste of warm weather again and boy was it nice!

We’re so excited that our February CSA will be starting next week too!! We’ve been sorely missing our Athens community and look forward to reconnecting with y’all. We will be re-joining the Athens Farmers Market lineup in March, so get a jump on the season and preview the great year of produce ahead with our February CSA in the meantime. If you haven’t signed up yet, there is still time! The deadline to sign up for the February session is Sunday, February 4th by the end of day. We have loads of yummy super-nutritious produce in our fields and can’t wait to get it to y’all. We’re looking at all of the cool-weather favorites like carrots, turnips, celery, sweet potatoes, radishes, spinach and more - the perfect ingredients for some hearty soups while the weather calls for it. Pickups will be every Tuesday in February at Athens Montessori from 4-6pm.

We still have discounted Full Spring Season and Three Season farm box and flower shares available too - explore all of our CSA options on our web store or click one of the links below! We have expanded pickup options for this year and are excited to be offering Home Delivery, so check it all out and see what’s right for you. It’s going to be a great year and we are so happy to have you join us!

See you next week!
