Merry Christmas From Our Farm-ily to Yours

Dear Farm Community -

Hope you don’t mind our newsletter a day delayed this week! Now that y’all have had your sweet Christmas mornings and delicious Christmas dinners, I know you’re dying to know what’s going on at Diamond Hill!! This week we’re taking a half week off so that all of our staff can enjoy family time and soak in the holiday cheer. But the break has been hard earned!

Last week we were busy prepping for our holiday break - making sure the weeds were all in check, seedlings and bulbs planted, and beds prepped for our return. We continued breaking down some of our fall fields - all of the dead Zinnias and Marigolds are officially in the compost pile, and that real estate will soon be used for spring plantings. Our once-summer-squash field saw transformation this week into 14 beds of Kale and Chard. Many thanks to Reid, who trained this week on our good ol’ John Deere and made some beautiful beds for us to plant into!

But now that our busy week has ended and there have been some days to rest and reflect, I’ve been ruminating on how farming embodies this Christmas spirit of giving all year long. We give our love and labor to the land, and from that springs bounty. We give our cooperation, teamwork, and support to each other as we work side by side, and from that we see beautiful friendships grow! And it’s all rooted in giving to our communities - to give you all wholesome nourishment from our food, joy from our flowers, and a sense of belonging when we see your familiar face at market.

These gifts are given back to us tenfold. Thank you all for the gifts you give us - for the sense of community that you create coming to our markets and getting to know your farmers, for participating in our CSA, for sharing with us what you make with our veggies, for the smiles we see when bouquets exchange hands, for teaching your kiddos about local agriculture, and for supporting us so we can do what we love. Winter isn’t quite so chilly with all these heartwarming sentiments.
