SM24 (W13): That’s a Wrap on Summer
Dear Farm Community -
The last week of Summer CSA!!! Wow ~ Hope y’all have enjoyed all of the abundant fruits and veggies that have graced your farm boxes this session and this week is sure to be just as yummy (as always, check the bottom of the email for the delights that await you). If you’re a weekly-pay customer, no need to change a thing! You will roll right on into the Fall CSA without a hitch. If you signed up for the full Summer Session, you can either sign up for the full Fall Session by Sunday 9/1 and get that sweet full-season discount, OR sign up for the weekly subscription anytime this week and convert to the weekly-pay option. Either way we hope you will join us for another 12 weeks of organic local agriculture that’s good for the earth and good for you!
We will also be having a special CSA-member Farm Tour on Sunday September 1st! We’ll tour the farm in its summery-state and pick Zinnias in this much more temperate and beautiful weather as of late ❁ If you are a CSA member you’ll get details sent to you directly about this fun event later today as well as a little invitation at your CSA pickup this week. If you’re not yet a CSA member but you’d like to be a part of this event, be sure to sign up for a CSA subscription or a Full-Season Fall CSA by end of day on Saturday! Event details will be in your CSA welcome email. We had a real blast at the last farm tour in May picking strawberries and fostering this little community - we’re sure this time around will be just as wonderful :)
On the farm we’ve been continuing our big fall crop transplant push with Lacinato and curly kale planted out. We’ve seeded and covered more beds of sunflowers (and made our pleas with the crows that they leave them alone). The cucumbers we planted a few weeks ago have been trellised. The bok choy and basil that we planted at the same time is looking beautiful!
Last week also held a bit of excitement! A film crew of students from the Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta paid us a visit to film some scenes for an upcoming episode of their series chefATL! Focusing on Atlanta culture through a culinary lens, each episode highlights the story of an Atlanta chef and the series has already featured some of our favorite restaurants and chefs like Steven Satterfield of Miller Union and Terry Koval of Deer and Dove. Without spilling the beans, the episode currently in production centers around a restaurant where our flowers are prominently displayed in abundance. They were excited to weave this thread into the story they are telling, and we were equally excited to welcome them for some filming. So keep your eyeballs out for chefATL (they are currently in the process of finding TV and streaming distribution) - you just might see a farmer or two!
We’ve got cucumbers back in your shares this week! A cucumber salad can be such a refreshing and delicious addition to a meal, and they can be dressed in so many ways. Try an asian-inspired smashed cucumber salad or if you’re a fan of nutty flavors, add a little peanut butter to the mix in this recipe for cucumbers in spicy peanut sauce! For brighter and lighter flavors, try a more traditional cucumber salad that calls for white wine vinegar and sliced red onions, like this recipe that kind of has dill pickle vibes. For all you mixologists out there, try your hand at a cucumber gimlet! You’ll also be seeing some of that beautiful bok choy I mentioned earlier ~ if you haven’t encountered this veggie in the kitchen before, this recipe for 10-Minute Garlic Bok Choy is a good place to test the waters :)
Happy Eating!
