F24 (W1): Autumn on our Minds
Dear Farm Community -
Welcome to Fall CSA! We sure hope the weather gets the memo soon (though it’s probably waiting till the fall equinox on Sept 22nd to give us a break!)
To any newcomers to our newsletter and CSA program, welcome! You can find the contents of your CSA share this week (and every week) at the bottom of the newsletter. Any questions you may have about our CSA should be answered on our website’s CSA Information page, but if still have unanswered questions feel free to reach out to us by replying to this email or chatting with our CSA coordinator or market staff at your pickup location. We love love love organic farming, our local community, flowers, veggies, and cooking, so we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have!
Thank you to everybody who came out to our CSA member farm tour yesterday and walked the property with us learning about the farm. The fields and greenhouses in the summer are so full of abundance (crops, weeds, the whole shebang!) so it’s an awesome time to get out and soak it in. We hope you think about this land and the love we give it every time you eat our (your!) veggies or admire our (your!) blooms!
For the first week of Fall CSA we dug up an early bed of sweet potatoes to welcome in some autumnal flavors in your shares. While you’ve been enjoying sweet potato greens in your shares all summer it’s finally time to cash in on those potatoes! Welcome in some European flavors with this Mediterranean Baked Sweet Potato recipe - large share members can chop up some of the heirloom tomatoes for the recipe too! With temperatures still quite summery, a Sweet Potato Salad with feta cheese, avocado, and a tahini dressing brings some early autumn flavors in a meal that’s light enough for this still-hot weather.
With our first-succession tomato beds being turned over for fall plantings, we have lots of green tomatoes to share too. Green tomatoes are a staple of southern summer cuisine, and while you can certainly bread them and fry them up for some classic fried green tomatoes, you can also omit the breading and simply sauté them until tender with a little bit of salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne. I love to eat these for a yummy healthy breakfast paired with eggs (if you want to add organic eggs on to your share, head here!)
Check out the full veggie lineup in your shares below, we hope you make some magic with it all! If you’re not yet a part of the CSA gang and still unsure if CSA is right for you, you can get on board with our weekly-pay option and opt out at any time - we hope you give it a shot with us this Fall!
Thanks for reading, thanks for eating, and thanks for supporting the farm!
Have a great week :)
