F24 (W7): Budding Mums and Chilly Fingers

Dear Farm Community -

A chill is in the air! The mums are budding! Fall weather has arrived! Everybody on the farm is getting in the autumnal spirit - and by that I mean we are welcoming back the cold ache in our fingers in those early hours of the morning spent harvesting. While this sensation isn’t quite as welcome by the time we hit January through March, right now it’s signaling to us that indeed, the seasons are changing. While we’re seeing an autumnal shift on the farm, we are by no means gearing down yet. Autumn holds an enormous diversity of crops and we’re in high gear planting and harvesting. The main seed house is full of seedlings waiting for their big day. Lots of brassicas like kale and broccoli sizing up for the fields, and toooooooons of our spring flowers getting ready for the over-winter journey. We also just received our little baby strawberry plants in the mail and we’ll have a transplanting frenzy this week to get them in the ground. You have permission to dream about spring sweets!

But winter weather isn’t knocking on the door quite yet. In fact, we’re expecting a later frost than usual which is great news for flowers. We’ve extended this year’s ordering window for DIY flower buckets through the end of October. If you have a creative spirit and are looking for amazing flowers for your event or just want to try your hand at flower arrangements, check out this economical option for getting incredible flowers from our farm. We are also accepting DIY bucket orders for 2025, so check something off your list early and we’ll put you on our flower schedule :)

For all you flower lovers out there, our wreath making workshop is just a five days away! We have a few spots left so join us if you’re looking for a fun morning in the park and a wreath to take home - handmade by you! Farmer Alex and Farmer Morgan are looking forward to teaching you the tools of the trade as you construct your own festive wreaths. Your fearless wreath leader, pictured below having the most fun, will have all materials available for you. Just bring your beautiful self and good vibes!

The incredible October harvests keep coming and your CSA’s this week are stacked with the good stuff. We’ve got sweet potatoes in every share this week. Sweet potato, nature’s nutritious candy, full of vitamin A, vitamin C and manganese. Sweet potato harvests kick off autumn on the farm, and their warm flavors are so quintessentially fall. Lean into the chilly evenings with this recipe for Spiced Carrot and Sweet Potato Soup. If you’ve got some time on your hands and want an incredibly rewarding meal, explore the flavors in this recipe for Burmese Chicken Braised in Coconut Milk & Turmeric with Sweet Potato.
