F23 (W12): Last CSA Pickup of the Year

Dear CSA Members + Farm Community,

Week 12 is here— this is the last CSA pickup for the fall season! The pace of the season varies so much month to month, but this time of year is one of my favorites. We’ve got some big projects on the horizon, like planting strawberries, onions, and garlic for spring harvest, but there’s a sense of things winding down. The weeds grow slower, the pest pressure drops with every freezing night, and our minds shift towards wintertime activities like making wreaths with dried flowers and covering crops with frost cloth.

CSA members: please remember that pickups this week will be on Tuesday from 4-6pm at Athens Montessori, or from 11-2 at Buvez in Normaltown. Everyone will be assigned to the Tuesday pickup by default unless you reach out and let us know that you’ll be coming on Wednesday. Thanks to everyone who’s already talked to us about their plans for this week. Please let us know ASAP if your plans have changed!

Maybe you’ve had your Thanksgiving recipes picked out for months, or maybe you’re like me and you’ll be improvising the morning of to figure out a few more sides for the inevitable last minute extra guests. Either way, we hope your share helps feed your holiday crew!

If you’re looking for a light and crunchy side to complement the heavy, creamy fare, try out this shaved broccoli and fennel salad with goat cheese, or maybe throw together a super simple little gems salad— leaves glossed with a light vinaigrette and topped with walnuts. Maybe you’re looking for a more substantial veggie dish for a side or a vegetarian main? Try this cauliflower steak with arugula pesto (but really, top it with chimichurri or bbq sauce or whatever piques your taste buds), replace the butternut squash in these vegan quinoa and cranberry stuffed bell peppers with sweet potatoes, or for the pastry-inclined, whip up this caramelized shallot and sweet potato gallette. And for dessert (I know it sounds weird, but trust me on this one), a miso sweet potato pie with chocolate sesame crust?! Weird, yes, but deceptively easy and entirely delicious.

Happy eating!
