SM23 (W10): Staying Busy

Dear CSA Members + Farm Community,

Last week, fall seeding started in earnest! We’re starting our kale, collards, radishes, lettuces and more summer-into-fall favs. Field work is kicking up again too, with beds being prepared and seeded with some late summer and early fall things- beans, squash, salad mix, arugula, beets, carrots, and MORE. At the same time, as I’m sure you can guess from your CSA shares and from our market table, summer crops are still chugging along. Tomatoes and peppers will be coming your way for a while yet! Needless to say, we’re staying nice and busy.

It’s hard to believe, but we’ve only got three weeks left in the summer CSA season including this one! We’ll be taking a two week break from CSA for the last weeks of August, and will start back up again in September with our fall season, which will run until Thanksgiving. We’ll have more info and sign ups for the fall coming soon, so keep an eye out for that!

This week, you’ll get sweet potato greens in your share. They’re akin to spinach in flavor, and can be eaten raw or cooked. Throw them into a stir fry, or try them in a lightly spiced coconut cream. I like them sauteed with salt and pepper and a a little lemon, and then thrown into a hash with potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and onions.

Happy eating!
