BONUS: Bloom Recap 2024

Dear Farm Community -

Looking back, the 2024 growing season was incredible, full of beauty and challenges. A new bigger crew meant changing things up and improving as we went along. Each week it was Bekah, Jackie, Morgan, and Alex brainstorming the best systems, harvesting like crazy, quality controlling, and counting to 10 as their literal day jobs. Only half of them became addicted to Celsius drinks by Mother’s Day, with 100% recovery rate. Then came the drought, we all remember it. The lack of rain was awesome for harvesting, (for the farmers and the flowers, since we all melt into wet cats) and we were able to get clean and dry flowers out of the field all summer long. However, the ultimate trade off was our dry depressing field full of 1,700 failing dahlia plants. The dahlia field was our most ambitious goal of the season and therefore our biggest failure - we won’t know till next year if almost 2,000 plants is too many! Of all the flowers we grew in the 2024 season, zinnias get the MVP award for their biggest brightest and most reliable blooms. In the midst of the growing season the flower crew dreamt up a magical 2025 focusing on timeless hardy perennials. We narrowed it down to 60 new varieties so needless to say the landscape of the farm is getting a facelift and there is lots to be excited about for 2025!

We are so proud of the many beautiful varieties we grew in 2024 and are excited to share our Bloom Recap with you - a calendar of our flowers throughout the year! While growing seasons and flower availability can vary slightly each year, this guide offers a great reference for what to expect and when in years ahead (but expect some newcomers too!) A photo library with the varieties listed can also be found at the bottom of this post.
