SP24 (W5): Diamond Hill Frog Circus

Dear Farm Community -

Well, folks. Spring is a radical time of change, isn’t it? This past week we decided to scrap all of our plans for the year, clear our fields, and move forward as the Diamond Hill Frog Circus. We will be spending the month of April collecting and training a legion of frogs and toads to perform gravity-defying stunts and incredible feats of strength. While we still may keep a few beds of radishes (to feed the frogs), we will be focusing our efforts almost entirely on researching amphibian intelligence and the potential for harnessing their power for the advancement of humankind.

APRIL FOOLS!

Really got you, didn’t we? In truth, last week was another typical spring to-do-list week. We got lots checked off, though! The greenhouse tomatoes planted two weeks ago week now have T-post stakes which we will use to string them up as they grow. The haphazard piles of irrigation drip around the farm have been cleaned up, weeds were pulled, and we had the first grass-mowing of the year. The farm is looking pretty darn good! We also had a fantastic weekend at the markets - y’all really showed up! It makes us so happy to think of all your Easter tables adorned by our flowers and veggies. Thanks for having us as part of the occasion

I may have been joking about our future as a frog circus, but it’s no joke that your CSA this week is full to the brim of the GOOD STUFF!

Our strawberries have been a hot commodity and a bit hard to get hands on as we wait for them to reach their full production potential. The sweetest reddest ones you’ll likely ever meet, they’ve been selling out just 15 minutes into market (if that!) Luckily for all you CSA members, we make sure to save the best for ya. All CSA members will once again this week be seeing our sweeter-than-sugar strawberries in their shares. Try this bright strawberry salsa or experiment with a vegan strawberry cheesecake dip. Large share members can get creative with the springy and refreshing combination of ~strawberry and fennel with a Paloma cocktail or this Kale salad! But ultimately, we hope you savor them whatever way you love best!

While it may take a while for you to see the Diamond Hill Frog Circus headlining at a venue near you, we’ll surely see you at your CSA pickups this week and at the mid-week and weekend farmers markets.

Happy Eating!
